STATED SESSION MEETING MINUTES SUMMARY

                        January 29, 2007 meeting

 

            (The minutes summarized here have been read by the individual Session members, but have not been approved in a Session meeting)

 

A Stated Session meeting of the Session of Covenant Presbyterian Church was held on Monday, January 29, 2007, beginning at 7:00 pm in the Robert’s Room.  A quorum was present.  The meeting was begun with prayer and a scripture reading by Rev. Morgan.  The following business was conducted:

 

1)                            A Treasurer’s report was heard from outgoing treasurer, Mary Lynn Jones.  It was reported that the total contribution from the Challenge Grant was $34,004.71 which came from 56 pledging units.  Additionally, that in 2006 there were 161 pledging units in the church and that of those pledging units 56 did not complete their pledge for 2006.  $731.55 in Joy Offering was collected for 2006 and $2465 was collected from the congregation for staff bonuses.

 

2)                            Rev. Morgan reported on his trip to Ecuador to attend a Spanish Language School as continuing education.  Rev. Morgan seeks to become more fluent in Spanish to meet the changing demographics of our area.  While in Ecuador, Neill visited with Klever Ponce who sends his warmest greetings to the entire congregation.  WOW will begin February 14th, including the 6 pm adult group meeting which will focus on planning for future programs and mission for our church.  Everyone is invited to this informal meeting/meal. 

 

3)                            Howard Haun presented a Finance Committee report.  A request was made and approved that Dorothy Wells become the new church treasurer for 2007.  Lyn Jostes, Finance Chair for 2006, discussed the budget. There was extensive discussion of the 2007 and 2008 budget picture.  Committee Chairs were asked to discuss and consider their budgets in the upcoming committee meetings.

 

4)                            Joyce McGowen, Worship Committee, asked for and received approval of the 2007 communion dates which are

 

First Sunday of each month

Maundy Thursday

Easter Sunday

Christmas Eve

Youth House Worship Communion Service

Anytime home communion is requested by a church member

       

5)                            Everyone was reminded to arrange for child care well in advance of all programs/events.

 

6)                            Don Gordon, Christian Education Committee, recommended that a committee be formed to formulate a new Child Protection Policy for the church.  This committee will study and recommend needed revisions for the performing of background checks and any needed monitoring of contract employees.  Such a committee was formed consisting of Don Gordon, Janet Chester, Alan White, a representative of the Personnel Committee yet to be determined, Tom Fowler and Bert Garcia. 

 

7)                            Calendar Events:

 

Newsletter deadline – Wednesday, February 14th, noon

Committee meetings – February 8th, 7 pm

Stated Session meeting – Thursday February 15th, 7 pm
